Vacancy for Regional Official
The Regional Official reports directly into the Senior Regional Official and will be a part of our Legal Member Services Department.
The purpose of this role is to advise and provide support to and representation for members on professional matters and issues relating to their employment within an educational context.
The Key responsibilites of the role are:
To undertake casework on behalf of a member or group of members at the request of London office staff.
- To undertake casework on behalf of a member or group of members who make contact with the employee direct or through branch officers.
Other Information:
There will be a 6 months probationary period for this role.
You will be employed on an annualised hours contract. The contract provides for you to work flexible hours according to the ATL business need and to enable you to best manage your work load. You will be required to work 1519 hours per annum based on a normal 35 hour week. You will be required to undertake regular evening and/or weekend work, subject to the reasonable direction of your line manager.
This is a home -based role serving a region. Normally it is expected that you will be located within the region you are serving. This will be your normal place of work; however you will be required to be mobile and to cover such geographical area as may reasonably be assigned to you by the Head of Legal and Member Services. Any change in geographical area will be subject to consultation with the employee. You will also be expected to attend at ATL London officeson occasion, as the responsibilities of your role require.
The starting salary for this role is £35,228 per annum, rising through five increments to £40,839 per annum.
ATL operates a service recognition scheme which aims to value the commitment people bring to their role. On every fifth anniversary of your appointment you will receive a small payment in cash or vouchers and an additional day’s leave in that year. (Subject to certain conditions).

You will be reimbursed for reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred in the proper performance of your duties. The details of which are set out in the Employee Handbook.
You will be entitled to 5.6 working weeks’ holiday (28 days based on a 5 day working week) per calendar year at times to be arranged with the line manager, plus statutory public holidays. Holiday entitlement accrues from the first day of employment. In addition you will be entitled to an additional 8 days pro rata for the ATL office closure Days.
You will, in consultation with your line manager, endeavour to develop yourself through personal learning and training courses. You will be offered an annual appraisal and development interview.

- When reasonably requested, to support branch officers in meetings and negotiations with employers and to attend such meetings on behalf of branch officers.
- To participate and assist in recruitment activities as reasonably requested by London office staff and branch officers.
- To develop and maintain knowledge of current education and employment law issues affecting ATL’s members.
